Trump commits to NATO mutual defense after hesitating

"No collusion, no obstruction, he's a leaker", Trump said during a Rose Garden news conference.

Trump said Friday that the committed to the mutual defense of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members.

Earlier in his press conference, Trump said he was "happy" with parts of Comey's testimony, including that the former FBI director said he had assured the president he wasn't personally under investigation regarding the Russian meddling in the election and possible collusion by Trump campaign aides. "But yes, absolutely, I would be committed to Article 5".

Trump was publicly silent while Comey testified on Thursday, but tweeted Friday an accusation that Comey - whom Trump fired in May - lied under oath.

The former Federal Bureau of Investigation director said Trump's private comments urging him to drop the probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn led him to tell his Justice Department colleagues they needed to be careful.

Comey said he refused on all points, told senators of the detailed memos he had written after his conversations with Trump and said he hoped those conversations were taped because he is confident of their veracity.

The Trump administration has also highlighted the fact Comey stopped short of accusing the president of obstructing justice - a potentially impeachable offense.

The Cubs recalled right-hander Felix Pena from Class AAA Iowa and optioned right-hander Seth Frankoff to Iowa. Trevor Story entered the day with a six-game hitting streak, having gone 8-24 in his previous six contests.

Trump dodged questions at a news conference about whether, as he's hinted, the conversations with Comey were taped.

Detailing one-on-one talks with a sitting president - which under normal circumstances are private - Comey said he took painstaking notes for fear Trump might "lie" about the unusual encounters.
