Judge, Yankees crush Orioles 16-3

Judge, Yankees crush Orioles 16-3

It was the most runs the Yankees have scored in a game this season, two more than their previous season-high set against - you guessed it - Baltimore on April 28. Montgomery gave up three earned runs and three hits in five innings to the Orioles last time he faced the team.

"They're a good fastball hitting team, so you really have to mix and keep them in between speeds", Montgomery said of his approach. "That's the bottom line, when (Ellsbury) comes back", Girardi said. "But I thought he did a great job handling it". Girardi's take: "He's always been a middle of the order hitter, I still like the thought of him hitting second, but I think it's more that he's gotten his swing right, and using the whole field like he did past year".

Jonathan Schoop hit an early two-run homer for the third-place Orioles, who dropped 4 1/2 games behind the Yankees. Castro and Judge both homered on Saturday, combining for six hits, five runs and seven RBI. In the first time through the lineup, the Orioles were 4-for-8 with a walk and the rest of his outing they were 1-for-17.

For the season, Tanaka is 5-6 with a 6.55 ERA in 12 starts as his splitter and slider vanished in recent games. "We just thought the extra day would be good and pitching in Anaheim is what's best for him".

Despite his recent success against NY, the Yankees have been able to hit Bundy very well and the current lineup is 10-35 against Bundy with a.390 OBP. If that doesn't go well, the Yanks finally might have to make a drastic call, such as placing the Japanese righty on the disabled list to sort things out.

Girardi has not yet named a starter for Sunday.

If nothing else, that uncertainty increased the expectation for yet another representative outing from Severino. It was the Yankees staff's longest such streak in the Expansion Era (since 1961) and the longest stretch of hitless at-bats with runners in scoring position in the majors since the Montreal Expos also held opponents hitless 45 times in 1982.

Mets to bring back Cespedes for Saturday's doubleheader
Yoenis Cespedes was on a plane to rejoin the team Friday evening. "He's one of the best players in baseball", Collins said. Cespedes' looming return comes after he was able to play all nine innings during a rehab game with the High-A St.

"I expected Sevy to pitch well". "He's throwing strikes and that's been the biggest difference". It was a different story in the latest matchup between two promising 24-year-old arms.

Michael Pineda (7-3, 3.39) finally seems to have found some consistency from start to start.

Hicks homered twice and rookie Jordan Montgomery pitched seven stellar innings to lead NY over the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 on Friday night. "But I just took him out because he landed pretty hard", Showalter said. Talk about divisional statements.

A sweep of the weekend series against NY will have the Orioles only half a game behind the Yankees and in sole possession of second place in the division if the Red Sox lose a game this weekend.

As CC put it, he wasn't anxious about the rest of the rotation, either.
