4K-Enabled Nest Cam IQ Announced, Priced At $300

As for what's inside, the camera now features a 4K image sensor (8 megapixels) capable of a 12x digital zoom and enhance.

The new Nest Cam IQ has major improvements over the first-gen Nest Cam.

Smart home company Nest has launched the Nest Cam IQ, the newest and smartest camera in its lineup of tech-driven thermostats, smoke alarms and security systems.

Nest has restated its position as the poster-child of the smart home with a new indoor camera, the NestCam IQ.

You can set up notifications such that the camera notifies you only when it sees people that it doesn't recognise, meaning that your phone won't notify you just because someone in your household has headed home early from work.

A close relation of Supersight is "familiar face alerts", which you'll have to pay extra for as part of £80 (RM445) per year Nest Aware subscription (it's also only available on the IQ).

Instead of just showing you what's happening, Nest Cam IQ is smart enough to differentiate between a person and your cat and can alert you accordingly - with no subscription required.

I was kind of just going with the flow and just taking every day one step at a time, just enjoying it and just trying to play. Lokoli later said Klizan was the one who did not respect him because he kept simulating injuries throughout their match.

Despite these hardware features, it is the "intelligence" of the camera that the Nest team hope will make it stand out from the rest.

It is not true to say this feature is unique to Nest Cam IQ - Netatmo, notably, has been pushing it for years - but with Google's faintly terrifying face-recognition software underpinning it, Nest's application of it looks sound. Overall, it's a pretty good value considering the features you get that don't require a $10/month Nest Aware subscription.

The Nest IQ Cam will be available for United Kingdom pre-orders by June 13, for £299.

How does the Nest Cam IQ recognise intruders? Nest Cam IQ's speakers are 7x more powerful than the original Nest Cam and an advanced three-microphone array also delivers noise suppression and echo cancellation for a clearer audio.

Nest's team showed me this in action during a preview demo, and it worked amazingly well; while the person the Cam IQ spotted initially appeared relatively hard to identify, once it automatically realized it was a person and narrowed on the face for closeup tracking, it was easy to make out identifying details. "Well, this is a direct application of that AI technology for a very specific use case, which is a static camera inside a home", Maxime Veron, Nest's head of product marketing, told VentureBeat. You can also enable two-step verification for your Nest account. In the Nest app, you'll see a 4x zoomed, 1080p close-up of them entering, with a picture-in-picture of the main feed in the corner (which you can always switch to). In terms of night vision, the Nest Cam Indoor has 850nm infrared LEDs.

You can preorder it now for $299 or get a two-pack for $498. It's available for pre-order in the USA now, and will cost $299, or $100 more than the Nest Cam and Nest Cam Outdoor. This is the first new product from the Alphabet division since the outdoor version was released a year ago. Nest Aware still gets you additional features, on top of the 10-day or 30-day video storage. You can also get audio alerts, such as dogs barking or people talking in a room.

The Nest Cam Indoor remains available and it costs £159 or $199.
