Trump On Kushner Russia Investigation

"I do think ultimately we're going to want Mr. Kushner to come before our committee", Schiff said.

The latest developments focus on Jared Kushner, his senior adviser and husband of his eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump. "And again I'd let him speak for himself when the time is right on all these issues and at that time we can actually render judgment on the reality of what did or didn't take place".

Congressional Democrats on Sunday demanded to hear directly from top White House adviser Jared Kushner over allegations of proposed secret back-channel communications with Russian Federation, saying the security clearance of President Donald Trump's son-in-law may need to be revoked. Raddatz said Kislyak must know "he's being monitored all the time" and asked Schiff if it was possible the Russians wanted US intelligence to hear what the Russian ambassador said about Kushner.

"If these allegations are true and he had discussions with the Russians about establishing a backchannel and didn't reveal that, that's a real problem in terms of whether he should maintain that kind of a security clearance", Schiff said.

"Just because you have a back channel, if indeed that's what Jared was after, doesn't mean that he then keeps everything secret", Kelly said on NBC's "Meet the Press". He said back-channel talks, even by an incoming administration with a foreign adversary, are good.

At the request of the White House, Senator Corker hosted a meeting earlier this month during which National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, Senior Advisor Jared Kushner and Deputy National Security Advisor Dina Powell provided information to and sought input from a number of senators regarding President Trump's first global trip.

The Associated Press and other news organizations reported that Kushner in December proposed a back channel between the Kremlin and the Trump transition team.

Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu said a second, larger vessel was expected in Colombo tomorrow with more aid. He said India's move to send relief materials demonstrated the Indo-Lanka relations which are at an excellent level.

"I have to say as well, Chuck", Clapper added, "we have a time-honored custom that we have one president and one administration at a time". "Talking with him directly and getting him to answer any and all questions as he said he would do, would probably be the prudent course of action".

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from SC, said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he was skeptical of the back-channel story because he did not trust Russian officials.

Kushner has said he doesn't remember the meeting.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said he was very concerned about Kushner's approach to the Russians.

Kushner's involvement in the proposed back channel was first reported by The Washington Post, which said he proposed using Russian diplomatic facilities for the discussions, apparently to make them more hard to monitor. "But it certainly was appropriate for - given all the signs - certainly appropriate for the Federal Bureau of Investigation - and necessary for the FBI to investigate", Clapper said.
