Police chief shot in upstate NY, suspect killed by officer

Tripodo says officers then went in and found the man dead and nobody else in the house.

Authorities say a police officer has been shot in an upstate NY village and a suspect is barricaded inside a home. State police say Amthor was struck in the upper shoulder, and the injury appears to be non-life threatening.

A police chief, who was wounded in domestic incident that turned deadly in Orange County, is now in stable condition.

According to a law enforcement source, Town of Montgomery Police Chief Arnold "Butch" Amthor was shot and is now at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. The chief was said to be conscious and talking when he was taken to the hospital.

Police Chief Arnold Amthor was hit in the upper right torso, shoulder area and is expected to be OK. He said he has known Amthor for more than 20 years, ever since Amthor was a City of Newburgh police officer and Neuhaus worked as an assistant to Newburgh's city manager. "I ask Orange County residents to keep Chief Amthor and his family in their prayers".

Barricades have been set up around Abbey Avenue, about two blocks from Route 208. State troopers as well as officers from as far away as Sullivan County responded to the scene. Police surrounded the home for several hours.
