Bus overturns on Interstate 95 in northeastern Maryland

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear; however, state police said they were questioning the driver of a auto that apparently was involved.

"Apparently during that maneuver, the driver lost control of his vehicle. and then came back across in front of the bus, clipping the front of this bus", Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said.

According to Maryland State Police, there were 26 students and three chaperones onboard the bus.

School Superintendent Dr. William Hite is holding a press conference at 2 District headquarters to talk about accident. That child was taken to the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.

Another 25 kids and three adults were taken by ambulance to three regional hospitals: University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Harford Memorial and Christiana Care Health System.

Northbound I-95 between exits 89 and 93 will remain closed until further notice, authorities said.

Aerial footage of the crash showed the white bus rolled over on the driver's side with front-end damage, as well as damage to trees on the right shoulder of the road, and the guardrail along the right shoulder. Police say the cause of the crash isn't yet known. On the other buses were police cadets who helped first responders get patients off the bus and request help, according to fire officials.

Multiple media outlets are reporting the bus was operated by Werner Coach out of Phoenixville.
