Sorry Lions set unwanted record in IPL farewell

Sorry Lions set unwanted record in IPL farewell

Gujarat will sadly be remembered for the wrong reasons, having crashed from 111 without loss to 154 all out at Green Park. Gujarat Lions's forgettable season after a questionable team composition for the better part of the tournament saw them finish the engagements at second last place with eight points.

In the afternoon, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and opted to chase - perhaps influenced by the Gujarat Lions' dismal record when batting first and by the fact that teams chasing had won all the previous matches at the venue. He has been a more than able partner for Warner up top and is now the second highest run-getter of the tournament with 450 runs. Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid mesmerised the Lions, claiming three for 19 to restrict the visitors to 135.

Going into Saturday's tie, Hyderabad will bank on their skipper David Warner and in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan to lay a solid platform for the likes of Kane Williamson, Yuvraj Singh and Deepak Hooda to explode lower down. Sunrisers Hyderabad are playing their last game in the league matches and will enter the ground hoping that they win the game and directly qualify into the IPL 2017 playoffs otherwise they will have to pray during other teams' matches hoping they qualify somehow. From 120 for 1, suddenly Lions slumped to 120 for 4 and Sunrisers took full use of the opportunity that they got. Together David Warner and Vijay Shankar forged a partnership of 133 which took their side to a comfortable win. The last 10 wickets fell for a mere 43 runs. Henriques made just 4 runs.

Wickets have been a premium and irrespective of the number of different spinners they have tried, Lions haven't been able to cause the required damage with the ball. Though he has only scored only 78 runs this season, there is no denying that he is a talented batsman and can take any team apart on his day. Currently, he is third in the run scoring chart with 440 runs in 13 games and would be looking to end the tournament on a high with another cracking innings.

Special Alves leads Juve to Champions League final
It will be the ninth time Juventus , runners-up to Barcelona in 2015, contest the final of Europe's elite club competition. German referee Felix Brych has been picked to work the Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid.

Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets for Sunrisers to shatter Gujarat. Vijay Shankar, who was dropped by Dinesh Karthik when on 6, brought up his maiden IPL half-century sixteenth over, needing 35 balls to get to the milestone.

For SRH, Mohammad Nabi applied the brakes initially and returned as the most-economical bowler, while the rewards were reaped by Mohammed Siraj (4/32), Rashid Khan (3/34) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/25).

Kishan was the top scorer among the Gujarat batsmen with 61 runs off 40 balls with five boundaries and four sixes.
