Michael Floyd signs with hometown Minnesota Vikings

Two weeks after the Patriots' Super Bowl win, Floyd made a deal with authorities in Arizona where he only had to plead guilty to one of the seven charges he was facing.

One of the players benefitting from the deadline is wide receiver Michael Floyd, who finished the 2016 season on the New England Patriots' active roster. He's now on home confinement in Arizona as part of the sentence he received February 17.

The Minnesota Vikings' decision Wednesday to sign Michael Floyd, to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million, can't be fully contextualized until we have two pieces of information: how much guaranteed money the Vikings gave the St. Paul native, and what kind of a suspension the National Football League will issue for Floyd's DUI arrest in December.

After his mercenary stint with the Patriots (and the legal system), Floyd was an unrestricted free agent.

Carter lauded the move by the Vikings to pick up the 6-foot-3, 220-pound Floyd.

The Minnesota Vikings are bolstering their receiving corps. The difference is, they played like it. There's also 2016 first-round draft pick Laquon Treadwell coming off a quiet rookie year.

"It's a great opportunity for (Floyd)", Carter said.

"For the last 10 years or so, they've been looking for that big guy", Carter said. His had career bests of 65 catches for 1,041 yards with the Cardinals in 2013, but previous year had just 37 receptions for 488 yards. In each of the past four seasons, Floyd has caught at least five touchdown passes.

"Coach [Mike] Zimmer and I are confident Michael Floyd has learned and grown from his past decisions".

A former star at Cretin-Derham Hall high school, Floyd, 27, had his best year for the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.

Following a DUI arrest in December, the Cardinals released Floyd.
