"I just don't want people to know what my thinking is", he said.

H.R. McMaster said Sunday that the US will indeed pay for the roughly $1 billion THAAD missile defense system in South Korea, amid neighboring North Korea's repeated ballistic test launches. A lot of people, I'm sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else. For what it's worth, Trump did have some nice things to say about Kim Jong Un as well, calling him "a pretty smart cookie" at one point.

North Korea threatened Sunday to sink an American nuclear-powered submarine deployed to the region to deter the authoritarian regime from developing weapons of mass destruction.

President Trump denounced the North's attempt, tweeting "North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today".

South Korean and US intelligence officials are trying to determine the type of missile used by North Korea for this launch.

"There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea", Mr Trump said at the Oval Office.

When pressed on if being "not happy" would mean military action, Trump demurred.

The U.S. began moving parts of the missile defense system to a South Korean deployment site earlier this week amid increasing tensions with North Korea.

"The missile did not leave North Korean territory", Dave Benham, a spokesman for the United States Pacific Command, said.

"The threat of a nuclear attack on Seoul, or Tokyo, is real, and it's only a matter of time before North Korea develops the capability to strike the United States mainland", Tillerson said.

"This is something that we know we can not tolerate", McMaster said.

Kim Jong Un's recent missile tests have prompted strong condemnation from the White House and other world leaders.

When asked by CBS reporter John Dickerson what he thought of Kim, Trump said he had "no idea" whether he was sane or not.

"And I can tell you, I don't think the President of China - who is a very respected man - will be happy either", Trump says. The relationship I have with China, it's been already acclaimed as being something very special, something very different than we've ever had.
