Christians celebrate Easter across conflict-torn Mideast

Following Easter Sunday, the season of Easter begins and lasts for seven weeks, ending with Pentecost, Ascension Day.

Easter Sunday, the day on which Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and his triumph over death, is always one of the most heavily attended church services each year.

Chris McClure, of Ashtabula, said he and his kids went to Catholic school, so going to church on Easter was partly tradition, but it was much more than that. 9 Just then Jesus met them and said, "Good morning!" This compels me to be more conscience of those around me who I might be able to share God's wonderful gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

I asked myself the question, "How did Easter come about?"

Easter is, by far, the most-attended Sunday of the year for many US churches, according to LifeWay Research, a Southern Baptist research center. All you need to do is call on His name and believe in Him.

Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena said the unparalleled supreme sacrifice made by Jesus Christ to save the human beings who are born in sadness and experience sadness throughout life, will be remembered forever.

That Jesus was born is obviously important. Hearing the words to "The Old Rugged Cross" reminds us just exactly why we mark this Holy Day.

We were reminded of this just days ago on Palm Sunday as Coptic Christian churches in Egypt were attacked and Christians were killed. Jesus was blameless and lived a sinless life, a life that was ideal and a life that you and I could never live. Jesus was raised as evidence for us to confidently trust his claims that he is our Savior who died in our place, offering forgiveness and payment of sin before his Father on behalf of anyone who trusts in him. They join today in celebrating a risen Savior who suffered and died on the cross, was buried, rose from the grave and ascended into heaven.
