Crosby, Penguins edge Blue Jackets 4-1 for 2-0 series lead

Crosby had a goal and two assists, Guentzel scored the first National Hockey League playoff goal and Sheary added a brilliant secondary assist as the Penguins rolled by the frustrated Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Friday in Game 2 of the first-round series.

Cam Atkinson revved up the Blue Jackets' dormant attack with two first-period goals, and it looked as if Columbus might be on its way to a good night.

Forward Michael Grabner has scored in both games of the series and missed on a breakaway attempt in the third period Friday night that could have made it 4-2.

The 21-year-old rookie earned a hat trick in a wild 5-4 overtime victory by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The result is that 3-0 lead in the series with a chance to end it here Tuesday night. Rust then tied the score at 13:25 when he took a cross-ice pass from Malkin just to the left of the crease and the puck squirted under Bobrovsky's pads after it appeared he had made a stop.

The Penguins' Jake Guentzel had a hat trick, including a goal at 13:10 of overtime for the game victor, but Werenski made the biggest impression of the evening.

Jaden Schwartz scored a power-play goal late in the second period to send St. Louis to a win over Minnesota and to a 3-0 lead in their first-round Western Conference playoff series.

Fleury finished with 39 saves while filling in for the injured Matt Murray, and received plenty of help.

"He seems to play his best when the stakes are high", Mike Sullivan was saying Sunday night.

The Blue Jackets never gained possession, but there is some gray area.

Just 18 seconds from trailing 2-0 in this series, the Canadiens have seized the momentum and they expect the Rangers to come out with more intensity in Game 4. Parise has 32 goals and 38 assists in 91 career playoff games. Of course, this has not worked at all, as through three games the Crosby line has totaled 11 points.

The intense Tortorella even eased up this season as his young team bought into the brand of fast, close-checking, "safe is death" hockey he wanted out of them.

On a team with Crosby and Malkin, you could do worse than picking Rust or Guentzel.

The Columbus Blue Jackets just could not shut the door on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Schwartz broke a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal at 15:19 of the second period to put the Blues one win away from the second round.

Looking like Werenski did after the game is insult to injury. One of those goals came when a puck bloodied Werenski's face but play wasn't stopped. The Penguins won the first two games of the series despite being outhit 51-30 and outshot 79-55. But to be fair, the team in front of him isn't playing well either.
