Braves greats help celebrate opening of new SunTrust Park

The Atlanta Braves won their 4th game straight against the Padres on Sunday afternoon knocking them off 9-2.

After touring SunTrust Park on Friday, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said the new venue can serve as a model for baseball.

By the sixth, with the Braves hanging onto a 3-2 lead after a Julio Teheran single in the fourth, Inciarte had another first to record: the first SunTrust home run.

Winless at Turner Field, Dickey got a victory in his first appearance at SunTrust Park as the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 Saturday night behind home runs from Brandon Phillips and Adonis Garcia.

"It was a special night for me and for a lot of people", said Inciarte, who was coming off a two-homer game at Miami. "Everybody was pumped in the dugout and you could feel the excitement of the crowd". "We've really meshed. It started out last season, especially when Kemp arrived".

Before a sellout crowd of 41,149 that included former United States president Jimmy Carter, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and one-time home run king Hank Aaron, the Braves won their second straight game after a 1-6 start.

Miguel Cabrera hit a three-run home run and Daniel Norris pitched six shutout innings while allowing just two hits as Detroit beat slumping Cleveland. The Phillies have lost four in a row after taking two of three from Washington last weekend at home.

"Every time I don't go more than six or seven innings, for me, I didn't get the job done", Garcia said. It's not like I'm trying to hit home runs, but I'm trying to put the right swing on the right pitch, and I've been able to do it.

Richard (1-2) gave up nine hits and four runs in six innings. Jim Johnson would close it out for the Braves, working a 1-2-3 ninth. I used to listen to Skip (Caray) and Pete (Van Wieren) calling the games.

Arkansas Pushes To Carry Out Executions, Fighting Court Rulings And The Clock
The state was still moving forward with plans to conduct the Monday night executions in the event that all stays were lifted. If court proceedings are pushed into May, Arkansas won't be able to carry out the executions with the drugs it has on hand.

Nothing worse than a new ballpark with lots of empty seats in August.

Not that anything should have or did top the roar that saluted Aaron - and to a slightly lesser extent - Jones, former manager Bobby Cox, former slugger Dale Murphy, and former pitchers Tom Glavine, Phil Niekro and John Smoltz before the game.

Despite living in the Atlanta area for much of his adult life, he has ushered at Tennessee football games at Neyland Stadium for more than 40 years. "One of my favorites I've played in so far". "But I think this just allows us a fresh start, so to speak".

That comes from salt-of-the-earth Brian Snitker, 61 and in his first full year as a big league manager but his 41st season in the Braves' organization. Ryan Schimpf walked and Erick Aybar was hit by a pitch, setting up Chacin's run-scoring dribbler and Manuel Margot's RBI single. He said the park has made a good first impression.

This was the first real test before a packed house.

The suburban park is located at the interchange of two major interstates, prompting concerns about traffic. Colon was shaky in his first start, but even at his advanced age he's capable of shutting down an offense. In his first start this year, Cahill logged a loss with 5.2 innings, five hits and two earned runs. Reliever Mauricio Cabrera (elbow strain) threw a bullpen session before the game.

Of that move from Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium to the Ted, Jones recalled what opening night was like for those 1997 Braves, who were fresh off their second straight World Series appearance.
