Alex Jones' lawyer claims on-air persona is 'a character', 'performance art'

The real Alex Jones is not his bombastic, conspiratorial InfoWars persona, his lawyer is hoping to convince a Texas jury in the radio host's child custody battle.

Jones and his ex-wife are fighting over custody of their three kids, who have lived with him since 2015, and jury selection begins on Monday. "He is a performance artist", Jones' attorney Randall Wilhite said at a recent pretrial hearing, summing up his argument for his client.

Judging Jones by his Infowars performances would be like judging Jack Nicholson by his depiction of the Joker on "Batman", Wilhite told state District Judge Orlinda Naranjo last week, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

That said, Jones has become a notable figure in conservative media, and if his own attorney describes his client as "a performance artist" - effectively characterizing Jones' freaky persona as a fictional "character" - that's an important acknowledgement for the public to be aware of. Which brings us news that broke this weekend in which Alex Jones is now in the middle of a custody battle with his ex-wife.

InfoWars host Alex Jones is a conspiracy-minded lunatic who screams and wails and does everything short of ripping his hair out every day in order to pull in ratings. He has told his listeners that the fatal shooting of 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, was a hoax to drum up support for gun control legislation.

"This case is not about Infowars, and I don't want it to be about Infowars", Naranjo warned the attorneys. "I will not let you down".

He also claims US moon landings were faked and that the government faked the Sandy Hook school shooting using actors.

The statement said it is the responsibility of Afghans, not the USA , to remove the Islamic State group from the country. A network of tunnels and caves was destroyed on Thursday evening local time, USA officials said.

Lawyers for the man who instigated Pizzagate and who once called Barack Obama a demon now say Alex Jones' on-air rhetoric is all an act.

"He's not a stable person".

But with the rise of Donald Trump, Jones has gained increased prominence and legitimacy.

Well, the Austin American-Statesman reminds everyone that Jones caters to a massive audience - he can boast of 7.6 million unique visitors per month on the InfoWars site and over 2 million YouTube subscribers.

In December 2015, Trump phoned in to the Alex Jones Show for a 30-minute interview.

Here's an example, a video from March 28, of Jones titled, "Democrats Admit They Are Planning To Kill Trump. In fact, more people follow Alex than watch Fox News or CNN", Stone said.
