Phil Spencer explains why the Scorpio is coming in late 2017

The more we hear about the upcoming Xbox Project Scorpio, the more it sounds like Microsoft's effort to upend the idea of distinct console generations completely.

For the longest time, video game consoles had a rather predictable system in place called Generations.

According to Spencer, "So we designed a console for 2016, and a console for 2017".

After some time of silence, Microsoft started lifting the lid on the Project Scorpio console earlier this week, with some very interesting details on its specs which will put the console quite ahead of the PlayStation 4 Pro. Spencer explained that the company foresaw the success of 4K TVs which is one reason why it simultaneously worked on a couple of consoles with 4K capability. He adds that he also believes the Xbox Project Scorpio will do well in the US market when it launches, which is slated for holiday 2017. Besides admitting support for its own Mixed Reality headsets and we know a few developers are working on VR demos, including Bethesda. "In terms of requirements if they do decide to take advantage of it, we want that content to run, at minimum the same but ideally better than it does on the original Xbox One". Ergo, we're probably looking at a powerful new Xbox console that doesn't dwarf everything else in your entertainment center. "We didn't think we could get there previous year, with the silicon that was in the market". It's a topic Spencer also touched on.

Jude Law Is Young Dumbledore In Fantastic Beasts 2
Eddie Redmayne in the first " Fantastic Beasts " movie, which debuted last fall. The eight Harry Potter movies made US$7 billion at the global box office.

There are several important details that are not yet known about the console, however, first and foremost of which is its name as Project Scorpio is likely a placeholder.

"Sometimes I get in trouble when I talk about Sony too much, but, the choice they made on PS4 Pro, I totally get that choice, from their perspective and what they wanted to go do", he continued.

In the end, Microsoft still believes that the home television is the prime source of gaming. Like, what is the next thing? Yesterday, we learned about the console's ability to enhance Forza 6 with PC settings.

The blog post also confirms the fact that Xbox One games will be playable on the Project Scorpio console. You can read it all over on Gamasutra.
