Governor Jerry Brown Declares End To Drought Emergency

All aim to achieve the four main objectives of the Governor's Executive Order B-37-16: use water more wisely, eliminate water waste, strengthen local drought resilience, and improve agricultural water use efficiency and drought planning. But Brown said in a recent statement that conservation must remain a way of life in the Golden State.

The Drought State of Emergency has been lifted for most of California.

Despite these improvements, the state noted that California's five-year drought will have lingering effects. "Technically, the drought is over, but this framework extends and expands our dry-year habits".

The USDA Drought Monitor data for California, for early April 20187, left, and 2016, is shown. That figure dwindled to 18 percent during the height of winter's storms before falling away later in the season.

"This drought emergency is over, but the next drought could be around the corner", said Governor Brown.

Monster storms this winter doused the Sierra Nevada Mountains with a record snowpack, a key California water source, and boosted reservoirs to normal levels. The company employs more than 6,700 dedicated professionals who provide regulated and market-based drinking water, wastewater and other related services to an estimated 15 million people in 47 states and Ontario, Canada. Officials already have started charting long-term rules to make California more resilient as climate change makes weather patterns more severe.

As for the city of Folsom, Marcus Yasutake, director of the environmental and water resources department, said the city is in the same boat it was last May. This includes prohibiting wasteful water practices and requiring urban water districts to report water use.

Gov. Brown addressed the drought with a series of executive orders mandating statewide water restrictions.

Majority are in Tulare County, a farming powerhouse in central California's San Joaquin Valley.

It also dried up wells, forcing hundreds of families in rural areas to drink bottled water and bathe from buckets.

"You can't stay at Defcon 1 forever, but you can figure out how to maintain sort of sensible vigilance", she said.
