Arsene Wenger believes Alexis Sanchez wants to stay at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is confident Alexis Sanchez wants to stay at Arsenal and is hopeful a deal can be struck over a new contract.

"Basically, he (Sanchez) wants to stay at the club and it's down to finding an agreement with his agent", Wenger told reporters on Friday.

"I think the players first have to see are they are happy to the club and after (that) most of the time it's down to finding an agreement, but the finances are involved in it, yes".

The Chilean star has thrown down the gauntlet to the club but will still hold off signing any new deal at the club until he feels the club have demonstrated that they can mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Talks over a new deal for the Chile worldwide are now on hold and at times during Arsenal's matches, Sanchez has cut a frustrated figure when things have gone against his side.

Sanchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2014 for a fee believed to be around £35 million (about $44 million) and has grown into the club's most influential player.

The Gunners are fifth in the table and trail Liverpool by six points but have two games in hand.

"Wenger at PSG? This is false", Kluivert said. 'It is not a tendon (injury), no'.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil has also been linked with a move away after being accused of showing a lack of enthusiasm on the pitch this season.

When asked whether an announcement would come from himself or the club, Wenger simply said: "From the club". "We went out in such an emphatic way, it was hard to take for everybody", Wenger said.

'It was hard to take for everyone, especially him.
