April the Giraffe experiencing 'significant changes,' labor expected soon

April first became a YouTube sensation in February when a live-stream was launched to watch her at the Animal Adventure Park Zoo in Harpursville, New York, while she awaits the arrival of her new baby calf.

"All observations, behavior, and predictions suggest a calf today, tonight", the post said.

Spectators have been waiting with bated breath for April the giraffe to give birth. Her vets at the upscale NY zoo confirm that they have seen signs of birth and they can clearly say that the animal park will have a new baby giraffe any time soon.

Whalen said the park also has received separate donations, but she said she didn't know how much. When the calf comes out, April will naturally raise it on her own, and will wean the baby giraffe for up to 10 months. This was not the first time that she struck at a vet; earlier this month the cranky giraffe successfully kicked a vet who was inspecting her.

April's pregnancy was catapulted into global headlines late last month after YouTube briefly yanked the zoo's stream following complaints by animal activists that it violated the site's policies concerning "nudity and sexual content".

"She just isn't quite ready to give the world what it wants", he said.

While some are interested in the science and spectacle of it all, others say it is a welcome distraction to the news of the day. The calf will weigh around 150 pounds and be approximately 6-feet-tall at birth. We are there. We are close.

Zookeepers predicted Friday that April would have a big weekend ahead of her. "All signs are go".

"April is showing all signs that we should see a calf in the next twenty-four hours", said Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch posted on Facebook Friday. The giraffe's name is April, after all.

In a Facebook post Wednesday evening, park veterinarian Dr. Tim reported, "Ok Gang. if you have been watching today, you should start getting excited. we are seeing nearly all the signs of birth happening within the coming days. of course, my schedule is insane for the next few days so naturally, we will pick the worst time possible. Hah".
