Texas deputy constable fatally shot after arriving for work

The Houston Chronicle reported that another deputy rushed over to Greenwood and applied pressure to his neck.

Baytown police, who are leading the investigation, have been unable to determine the shooter's motive, but believe the shooting was intentional, Lieutenant Steve Dorris said.

Greenwood later served on the command staff of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, where he oversaw the department's internal affairs division - a job that once again put Greenwood in front of television cameras.

Fallen Deputy Constable Clinton Greenwood spent more than three decades in both law enforcement and in the courtroom. Assistant Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood, a 30-year veteran of the force was airlifted to a hospital where he later died just before 10 a.m. "We don't know", he said.

The scene is in the Kosciusko neighborhood, a mostly industrial area just to the east of Soulard. Investigators will be reviewing records to see whether the machine had been properly maintained.

Twitter offered prayers and condolences after the Harris County deputy constable's death.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton also expressed condolences to the slain constable's family.

"We ask the entire community to please stand by us", Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales said.

"I am confident the perpetrator of this despicable act will be apprehended and that the murderer will be met with swift justice", he added. "Violence against our law enforcement officers must stop", he said.
