NORC Poll: Most disapprove of Trump, except on economy

A total of 58 percent of poll respondents reported they were glad the Republican health care bill failed, though 59 percent of Republicans were frustrated about it. Thirty-two percent overall approved of Trump's handling of health care while 59 percent disapproved - but only 67 percent of Republicans responded approvingly. It was conducted amid the collapse of the GOP's health care overhaul.

Congressional Republicans have an approval rating of 29 percent - lower than Trump - but presidents usually have a higher approval rating than Congress, according to the poll.

Independents approve of the job Trump is doing by 34-52 percent, while Democrats approve by 9-84 percent.

There's a brighter side for Trump: Americans split evenly over the economy - often a major driver of presidential success or failure.

And while the survey does find a potential bright spot, it also reveals his handling of health care isn't helping.

The article explained the number changed when broken down between Democrats, Republicans and Independents, as Democrats viewed polls more favorably with 47 percent stating they have "a great deal" or "a good amount" of confidence in poll results, as opposed to 26 percent among Republicans.

The survey was conducted from March 22 to 27 and surveyed 1,062 adults, which includes 906 registered voters.The margin of error for the full sample was 3 percentage points, and the one for the registered voter subset was 3.3 percentage points.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online in English in all 50 states.
