Beauty And The Beast released at the box-office with Bollywood films Trapped, Aa Gaya Hero and Machine.

Beauty and the Beast marks Disney's first attempt at turning one of its more contemporary animated classics into a live-action movie.

All that money flowed into theaters after almost 52,000 people signed an American Family Radio petition reading, "I can't support Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" movie because of the director's announcement in a recent interview that the movie will contain a "nice, exclusively gay moment" between two male characters".

Disney is already making plans for other live-action movies, like "Aladdin" (TBD), "The Lion King" (TBD) and "The Little Mermaid" (TBD), according to MoviePilot. It won't be long, though, when factoring in worldwide box office hauls over its lifetime, as well as home video and syndication revenues.

Beauty And The Beast, the studio's latest live action update of a cartoon classic, waltzed its way to a staggering $170 million debut this weekend, setting a new record for a March opening.

Of that total, $174.8 million came at theaters in North America.

As if that weren't enough, the film beat a number of other records as well, according to T.H.R.-including the best domestic opening ever for a PG film, handily beating out Finding Dory, which opened with $135 million past year.

Israel threatens to destroy Syria's air defences
A few years into the war, Hezbollah joined forces with Assad, sending thousands of its fighters to reinforce Syrian troops. The Syrian army claimed it shot down one Israeli jet in the incident, and damaged another, but the IDF denied the claim.

Beauty and the Beast continues in Irish cinemas now.

The movie had a hefty budget of US$160 million. It'll be close; the previous record, held by Batman V Superman, stands at $166 million. Emma Watson nabbed the lead role in the highly anticipated Beauty and the Beast, and it has now been revealed just how much money she'll walk away with.
