Celebrities posted on Twitter and Facebook, sharing their love and memories of the beloved rock and roll star. "Original Pure Rock "n" Roll".

The St. Louis auteur contributed three things to rock music that no one else did: (1) An irresistible swagger, (2) a focus on the guitar riff as the primary melodic element and (3) an emphasis on songwriting as storytelling.

"This record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy", Berry said in a press release, Toddy being Themetta Berry, whom he married 68 years ago, on October 28, 1948.

Berry had a never give up performing attitude but he hadn't recorded in a long time.

Berry died Saturday at age 90, leaving behind not only a core of rock classics such as "Johnny B. Goode" and "Roll Over Beethoven", but countless descendants in songs clearly indebted to him in sound and in spirit.

Beatles drummer Ringo Starr quoted one of Berry's own lyrics on Twitter, saying: "Just let me hear some of that rock "n" roll music any old way you use it".

USA rocker Bruce Springsteen said: "Chuck Berry was rock's greatest practitioner, guitarist, and the greatest pure rock "n" roll writer who ever lived".

His first breakthrough came in 1955, a rewrite of a 1938 country song by Bob Wills renamed "Maybellene".

Despite his troubles with the law and the conditions of the times, Berry rose to the top of his profession. "You can hear his influence in every rock "n" roll band from my generation on".

Though Berry had several health issues in recent years, he seemed thrilled last year when he announced that he had completed "Chuck", an album of new material that he planned to release this year.
