No Kane but Spurs ready for Saints

Last of them were on current season, where Tottenham won by 1-4 goals in away games.

Son worked tirelessly, occupying Southampton's defenders and Alli's touch was at times mesmeric, although he did miss the space that Kane creates for him with his physical presence.

The youngster won a penalty which he converted himself following Christian Eriksen's opener at White Hart Lane.

He failed to take his chance when Kane was out for seven weeks during the autumn as 10 appearances in that period yielded only only three goals - all from the penalty spot.

But Pochettino believes his title hopefuls, who host Southampton on Sunday, will ensure there isn't another drop in form with England forward Kane back on the treatment table.

Tottenham tightened their grip on second spot in the Premier League with a 2-1 home win over Southampton.

Southampton have kept only one clean sheet in their last 25 away league games against Spurs (0-0, Jan 2001), with Paul Jones in goal for Saints that day.

Losing Walker to injury would be a major blow for Tottenham in their pursuit of domestic success this season, having already lost a number of key players to injuries.

Spurs have already played top-flight opposition without Kane in the team nine times in the current campaign. The last time the Spurs suffered a loss at home was when Southampton visited the London side in May of a year ago. "The other teams [in the top six] are dropping points and playing each other, so we have to make sure that gap is big enough to secure [qualification for] the Champions League as soon as possible".

"I agree we need to improve by trying to score the third or the fourth, and finishing the game before, because we were much better than Southampton".

Visiting manager Claude Puel disagreed, however, insisting Southampton merited a point at White Hart Lane.

The Denmark midfielder first played Heung-Min Son through on goal with an inch-perfect pass, only to see Kane's replacement foiled by a strong save from Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Three minutes of stoppage time were added on at the end of the first half and Dembele fouled Redmond to hand Saints a promising situation.
