Manchester United squeeze through to Europa League quarter-finals with narrow win

Jose Mourinho's team are considered marginal favourites over Rostov after securing a 1-1 draw in Russian Federation a week ago, courtesy of midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan's goal.

Manchester United host FC Rostov this Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, with the game exclusively live on BT Sport. The Portugese expressed these deep thoughts in his preview press conference ahead of United's home leg of their Europa League round of 8 with FC Rostov.

The match will take place at the Old Trafford.

The home side had the first chance in less than five minutes, a Marcos Rojo header bringing a save from Nikita Medvedev after Daley Blind's corner, before Zlatan Ibrahimovic was presented with an opportunity through Mata's quick-thinking after Khoren Bayramyan had given the ball away.

Whether ironically, or a coincidence, but it was Chelsea that left Manchester United with nothing this season twice.

A March Madness loss smarts for Princeton's over-achievers: Feschuk
Princeton finishes the year with a 23-7 record, including a ideal 16-0 mark in Ivy regular-season and tournament games. That's a combined 4-for-21 (19 percent) from a pair of players who both shoot better than 43 percent from the field.

Sir Alex Ferguson was clearly not at all happy about the referee in the wake of Manchester United's 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup on Monday night.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic started up top as his three-match ban does not apply to European matches. Attempting a sprint a minute into the second half Pogba pulled up, briefly sat down in discomfort and was led straight down the tunnel, to be replaced by Marouane Fellaini.

Jose Mourinho's side drew the first leg in Russian Federation 1-1, and while Henrikh Mkhitaryan's away goal means United have control of the tie, Bailly is fully aware of the challenge that awaits them on Thursday. The French man is a phenomenal player for both club and country where his six goals for France in the European Championships in the summer helped them reach the finals where they came up short against France and also helped see him finish third in the Balon D'or as well. With Ander Herrera also due to miss the game through suspension, a new look United midfield is quite the possibility.

"The fans will give us this extra energy so we believe that tomorrow we can cope with the situation and fight to be in the quarter-final". Firstly, because he extolled Pogba's virtues to anyone who would listen in the wake of that FA Cup defeat.

While at Old Trafford with a full strength squad, the Red Devils were never going to be in much danger considering the visitors were only able to name four substitutes on their bench. Mourinho elected to play a 3-5-2 formation, and although his side surrendered a lead on the night, a draw was a good result against a team that had beaten Bayern Munich and thrashed Ajax in Russian Federation this season.
