A March Madness loss smarts for Princeton's over-achievers: Feschuk

The game is scheduled for a 12:15 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on CBS. Verne Lundquist, Jim Spanarkel and Allie LaForce will be on the call. They ran through the regular season unbeaten, and then won the first-ever Ivy League tournament by knocking off Penn in the Palestra (in overtime) and then defending champion Yale in the title game.

If Notre Dame is going to make another run, it needs more out of forward V.J. Beachem.

Princeton finishes the year with a 23-7 record, including a ideal 16-0 mark in Ivy regular-season and tournament games. The other two meetings were a 35-22 Irish win in South Bend on December 31, 1927 and an 80-66 loss to the 13th-ranked Irish on December 7, 1974.

Notre Dame benefited from three straight defensive stops to begin the second session, and Princeton did not score until almost four minutes into the half. So as I've gotten older I've gotten looser with them.

At the halftime break, Brey offered, "I love what we're doing offensively with the low-post stuff. So I think for us we have to take it one game at a time, which is what we preach every year", Allen said. It didn't go in, we're here now, we have another chance to go on.

Cannady, a 42-percent 3-point shooter, had another clean look but his shot was long, allowing the Irish to escape and advance into the Round of 32.

The Irish pulled out to an early 9-3 advantage in the first half off of two 3-pointers by Farrell, but the Tigers answered back to tie the game at 11-11 and take the lead at 17-15.

As calm as they were, mind you, the Irish ultimately found their destiny in someone else's hands, in the bounce of a ball en route to a basket with the clock running down, in a make-or-miss instant that had the potential to change lives - or, at the very least, weekend plans.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reveals aims for the rest of the season
Meanwhile right-back Bellerin has again been linked with a move to Barcelona having enjoyed a good season in north London. And he insists the under-fire Frenchman is doing exactly the same to Arsenal after yet another season of disappointment.

Most importantly, though, Notre Dame played with toughness throughout the game. "We can throw to a lot of the guys". Following a timeout, Notre Dame had the ball with 12.4 seconds left. I think we tried to get to the rim, but I thought Notre Dame, they're smart, they're tough.

The three-point shot creates a lot of excitement and levels the playing field in the Big Dance. Now, after a 60-58 loss, some Tigers were headed back to campus to write the exams they'd rescheduled in the name of the tournament.

Princeton played from behind for most of the game, leading only once, midway through the first half.

The Irish held Mishawaka product Cannady to seven points on two-of-11 shooting (two of 10 from three-point land). Farrell picked up 16 on the game, and Ryan notched six points in the first 20 minutes. Notre Dame will meet the victor of Thursday's game between No. 4 seed West Virginia and No. 13 Bucknell on Saturday.

Brey said associate head coach Rod Balanis would handle the bulk of the Princeton scouting this week. Vasturia was 3-for-12. That's a combined 4-for-21 (19 percent) from a pair of players who both shoot better than 43 percent from the field. That shouldn't happen - the law of averages - but we've been in so many of them, we really believe.
