Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday 2 am, set clocks ahead

The following are 10 surprising facts about Daylight Saving Time that you might not know.

As Canadians prepare for the Daylight Saving Time switchover on March 12, ICBC is issuing a reminder, asking drivers to get some extra rest this weekend to prepare for the shift to DST. "Frequent and uncoordinated time changes cause confusion, undermining economic efficiency".

According to the Pediatric Sleep Council, for which Mindell serves as chair of the Board of Directors, a child's internal clock is primarily set by light and dark.

Daylight Saving Time starts Sunday, so get ready to spring forward and lose an hour of sleep. The federal government does not require its states or territories to observe DST, states such as Arizona and Hawaii, as well as places like Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa, do not adjust their clocks.

Daylight Saving Time is not observed in all 50 states.

Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez to star in Overboard remake
Overboard is set to begin filming in May in Vancouver, but there is no word yet on when we can expect the movie to be released. Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez will take on the roles made iconic by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, respectively.

Others see Daylight Saving Time as a moment to check on some household duties that have fallen by the wayside.

This means the daylight will begin later in the morning and the sun will set later in the evening. Daylight Saving Time exists to, essentially, do just what it sounds like it does: allow people to take advantage of as many daylight hours as possible. Filene owned a chain of department stores and hoped that more daylight at the end of the day would encourage shopping. It's also called "summer time" in some countries.

If the late sunlight isn't your thing, the clocks turn back at 2 a.m. on November 5.

So it's no surprise, then, that more than one-quarter (28%) of all parents said they do not like putting their clock ahead one hour for DST.

The second Sunday of March is designated as the start of Daylight Saving Time by the Energy Policy Act.
