Frontier Airlines adds new nonstop flights from Dulles

Frontier Airlines is adding nonstop flights between the Colorado Springs Airport and seven new cities, the airport announced Tuesday.

Daily, year-round service to Las Vegas's McCarran International Airport begins July 16 using Airbus A320 aircraft. Frontier is now accepting bookings for these flights at its web site.

Starting April 20, Frontier will add daily, nonstop flights from Dulles to Denver. The returning flight will be offered the same days out of Las Vegas at 7:20 a.m.

Frontier will be the only airline serving five of these cities from Colorado Springs. Flight 963 will depart Dulles at 7:50 a.m., arriving at 9:44 a.m. Passenger traffic rose 10.6 percent in 2016 to 649,190, the highest annual total since 2013 and the biggest percentage gain since WestPac's peak year in the Springs in 1996, when the airport's passenger numbers surged 70.6 percent to 2.42 million.

The transaction was disclosed in a legal filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, which is available at the SEC website . Following the sale, the vice president now directly owns 183,765 shares of the company's stock, valued at $16,906,380.

The new route is in addition to three other nonstop destinations - Austin, Cincinnati and Cleveland - that the airline announced last month that it will be debuting in April and May.

"It's going to provide some real good competition and they have some introductory fares as low as $39 each way", Airport Manager Dan Letellier tells KELO Radio's It's Your Business Show with Bill Zortman.

"Our network continues to expand in markets where people want to fly", said Josh Flyr, vice president of network planning for Frontier.
