Earlier this week, the police also initiated proceedings for a look out notice against Prajapati following reports that he may try to escape overseas to evade arrest.

It's also associated with past labor movements , which also fought for human rights - particularly for immigrant workers. For these women , missing a day of work can mean the difference between food on the table and an empty refrigerator.

Police action came hours after the Supreme Court refused to stay the arrest of Gayatri who is absconding for a week since an FIR was lodged against him and six of his associates on the directions of the apex court on February 18.

Prajapati filed a plea in the apex court seeking protection from arrest and recall of the top court's earlier order. "If an NBW (Non-Bailable Warrant) is issued you have your remedies", NDTV quoted the apex court as saying to Prajapati's lawyer.

He is also accused of taking obscene photos of the victim and threatening her to make the photos public and raping her for the past two years.

Prajapati is also accused of patronising the illegal mining mafia when he was the mining minister and a probe has been ordered by the Allahabad High Court in this matter. In the initial questioning Chandrapal, who was posted with the security wing of the state police and attached to the minister as his official gunner, claimed he was not aware of Gayatri's whereabouts.
