Three injured in Heidelberg vehicle ramming

He tried to flee and was shot by police officer who were giving chase officers, according to local police.

Three people were injured in the attack and the man was shot after being tracked down by officers.

The incident occurred around 4pm local time, a police spokesman has told Der Spiegel.

In the video, posted on Twitter, police officers can be seen surrounding the suspect who is largely obscured by a parked police vehicle.

The man reportedly fled the scene where the auto crashed and headed to Bergheimer Strasse where he was intercepted by police.

Local media report that the suspect was driving a rental auto.

Attacks with vehicles are a sensitive topic to many Germans.

Police said a 73-three-year-old German man who suffered serious injuries died later in hospital.

It comes just months after a lorry drove into a Christmas market in Berlin killing 12 people.
