Warren Buffett's firm expected to file update on its stocks

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway unveiled its latest holdings Tuesday, and it looks like the investment fund headed by the Oracle of Omaha is getting hungrier for airline stocks.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. late Tuesday filed a quarterly update on its USA stock portfolio with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday. That investment got attention when it was first disclosed a year ago because Buffett has always been reluctant to invest in technology companies. This additional purchased raised the value of Berkshire's stake in Apple from around $1.7 billion to $6.64 billion in December.

Buffett himself seemed to take a dimmer view of traditional retail's prospects at Berkshire's annual meeting a year ago when he said of Amazon, "It is a big, big force and it has already disrupted plenty of people and it will disrupt more", adding that many companies "have not figured the way to either participate in it, or to counter it".

Berkshire did not respond to a request for comment. The firm remains bullish on airlines, dramatically expanding positions in both American Airlines (AAL) and Delta Air Lines (DAL).

Berkshire holds major investments in Coca-Cola, Wells Fargo and other companies. Berkshire first disclosed that it had invested in airlines in November, which came as a surprise to some, because the billionaire previously criticized the business.

Most believe the initial investment by Berkshire in Apple was by Weschler or Combs.

Berkshire also reported owning about 167 million shares of Sirius XM Holdings Inc., valued at about $740 million at the end of 2016.

The Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate also owns roughly 90 companies such as the BNSF railroad, Geico vehicle insurance and Dairy Queen ice cream.
