20000 in Mexico City protest Donald Trump's border policies

Thousands of Mexicans marched on Sunday through the Mexican capital city to protest the migration and trade policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The confrontation has stoked patriotic pride in Mexico, where U.S. companies like Starbucks, Coca-Cola and McDonald's are the targets of boycott campaigns and many people have taken to putting the Mexican flag in their profile pictures on social media.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Trump have been at loggerheads over the stance Trump first took against Mexico while campaigning for the USA presidency a year ago.

Mexico's Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said on Monday there has not been a rise yet in the number of deportations of Mexicans from the U.S. under President Donald Trump.

Trump recently said it is likely that Mexico will reimburse the United States for the wall in order to speed up construction.

Trump has pledged to build a wall along the US border with Mexico and criticizes USA companies who outsource jobs to the country.

Looking ahead to the presidential election next year, Lopez Obrador sought to tap widespread discontent with Mexico's ruling party and resentment toward the new USA president, while placing faith in Americans to resist Trump's policies.

"Undocumented Mexican immigrants are not criminals or rapists", another sign read.

"We are sending a message to Donald Trump: No wall".

Many people within the crowd held up signs saying "Respect Mexico" and "we are all Mexico" at the rally, the LA Times reported.

Trump had signed an executive order last month to build a wall along the 3,200 kilometer long border that separates the United States from Mexico, one of Trump's key election campaign pledges.
