The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (UG)-NEET, 2017 on May 7. The upper age limit of the candidates has been fixed 25 years on the date of conduct of examination in which five year relaxation has been given to the reserved category candidates.

States such as Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra opposed the judgment and was successfully exempted for state-run institutions and affiliated colleges for 2016.

Chennai: The State government today introduced a bill against the NEET examination which was mandated by the Supreme Court in 2016. Last year, in both NEET-I and NEET-II, 8,02,594 candidates were registered.

Separately, the Tamil Nadu Admission to Postgraduate Courses in Medicine and Dentistry Bill, 2017 seeks to admit students for postgraduate medical/dental courses based on marks obtained in the qualifying undergraduate examinations. Earlier, the political blame game has erupted between ruling Congress and opposition BJP in Karnataka over non-inclusion of Kannada among the languages for holding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for admission in medical colleges for the academic year 2017-18. "This year in all the seats of MBBS/BDS courses, admission will be done through NEET", an official statement said. "While the Ordinance would temporarily address the issue for the current year, Tamil Nadu's situation is distinct and different from other States", Jayalalithaa said. Through a resolution, the government also appealed to continue to select the students through Centralised Admission Committee (CETAC).
